Anti-Jo 1
Through my research regarding the Anti-Jo-1
antigen, I found out that there isn’t a lot of
information out there, and a medical degree may be necessary
to understand the information that is available on this
subject.
Anti-Jo-1 antibodies are specific for
patients with polymyositis. The target for the anit-Jo-1
antibodies was one of a family of distinct cellular
enzymes – the enzymes are called the aminoacyl
t-RNA synthetases.
The presence of autoantibodies against
the Jo-1 antigen has been reported in up to 23% of polymyositis
patients by immunodiffusion. Anti-Jo-1 antibodies are
almost completely specific for myositis, and are more
common in those that have polymyositis than dermatomyositis
and rare in children. The presence of anti-Jo-1 antibodies
defines a distinct group of polymyositis patients with
interstitial disease, arthritis, and fevers.
As I said at the beginning of this section,
there isn’t a lot of information available about
the Anti-Jo-1 antigen. Your doctor should be able to
provide you with more information or at the very least,
where to look for it.
